General Election Candidates 2026/2027

President Candidate
Melly Pack, she/her
I have had so many great experiences with the Students Association of NWP since I got elected as VP Internal in September of 2022. As I head into my final year of school, I ask the student body to allow me to finish out my time here continuing to help lead the pack as your student President. As a business student, NWPSA has allowed me to use my future HR degree in real time and learn valuable lessons to take with me in the future.
I feel that I am a strong leader for many reasons; I am not scared to chat with any of you, I often speak at public engagements, and I have great relationships both within the institutions and the community. I have diligently advocated student needs within the institution and on a provincial level through my work with NWPSA and with Alberta Student Executive Council (ASEC) Advocacy Committee. For the last three years I have sat as student chair of the Campus Trust Board, which is our health and dental program. With in the institution, I have actively participated in Academic Council, Program Review Committee, Curricular Committee, and many others. Sitting on these committees allowed me to bring the student voices to the tables where they can make the biggest impact. I am willing to speak up when I think something is in the best interest of the student body, and I have learned when to listen so I can learn from those around me that have more experience.

I want to continue being your student President because I think that it is so important that you know who is in your corner and they are actively advocating for you. I will continue to stop you in the hallways to randomly ask you about your experiences at NWP and take that information to the people that can make a difference. I will continue planning fun events and creating a welcoming environment for all students. I will do my best to be here for you and support the student body in any way that I can.

Vice President Internal Candidate
Mason Huckabone, he/him
Mason Huckabone [he/him] is the current Vice-President Internal of the Northwestern Polytechnic Students Association and is running for re-election.

Mason is a fourth-year student at Northwestern Polytechnic, where he has pursued post-secondary studies focused on the arts, education, and business. He is currently on track to complete his Business Administration Certificate this year and will transition into his third year of the Bachelor of Education program in the fall.

As a student leader, he works as part of the executive leadership team responsible for delivering the NWPSA’s many student services. Beyond overseeing the organization’s club portfolios and student council committee portfolios, his work involves ongoing cross-department coordination with institutional partners, hiring processes, financial compliance, event planning and fulfillment, external client relations, policy development, governance leadership, and strategic alignment across the organization.

Mason further dedicates his time to volunteer initiatives throughout Grande Prairie that strengthen arts, culture, and community life. Through the Grande Prairie Live Theatre, he performed in Grease the Musical and later contributed as assistant director for Murder on the Orient Express and Pride & Prejudice. He also serves on GPLT’s Board of Directors, lending leadership on multiple committees, including Policies and Governance, Finance, EDI, and Event Support.

Beyond the theatre, Mason has volunteered at the Grande Prairie Stompede, the Bear Creek Folk Festival, Christian Fellowship Assembly’s Vacation Bible School and Summer Bible Camp, and the Festival of Trees, supporting community and family-focused events. Mason also sits on the City of Grande Prairie’s Youth Advisory Council, where he participates in discussions that prioritize equitable access to youth opportunities in the City’s decision-making processes. He is motivated to help create spaces where diverse youth feel supported.

The City of Grande Prairie has a diverse demographic, allowing a multitude of cultures to be represented on campus. Throughout elementary, high school, and post-secondary education, this environment has provided Mason with the opportunity to collaborate with students and friends from various backgrounds, which has significantly influenced his perspective on the importance of inclusivity. If elected, Mason hopes to help maintain this inclusivity within Northwestern Polytechnic so students can learn in an environment where they feel comfortable and included.

With his pride in the community, his extensive experience in leadership roles, and his deep passion for education and student advocacy, Mason is committed to serving the Northwestern Polytechnic Students Association. He looks forward to campaigning for the opportunity to serve as Vice-President Internal for another term, where he can continue to make an impact in the community.

Student Council Candidate
Tony Purnell, she/her
My name is Tony, and I am originally from Vernon, BC. I have been in Grande Prairie for over ten years. I attended GPRC and SAIT before and became a Journeyman Welder. I have since decided to return to school to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration. This last year, I balanced my time between school, student council, two young kids, and a puppy. It was busy, but it was a lot of fun. I enjoyed volunteering with the Room of Plenty and being an advocate for students with NWPSA. I believe in leading by action with kindness.

I am interested in joining Student Council for the 2026/2027 school year. It would be a pleasure to act as a liaison between students and NWP, and the position would offer an excellent opportunity to build on important skills such as leadership, civic responsibility, student advocacy, and volunteerism.

Thank you for the opportunity,

Tony

Student Council Candidate
Hallie O’Toole, she/her
My name is Halloe O’Toole and I am interested in continuing my position as student counselor for the NWPSA. I like learning and finding more ways to be involved in my community and school. Through that council I learned the importance of listening and collaborating with others. I want to have a second term on the student council as I feel having prior experience in the council is an asset. I believe even small contributions can make differences and I’m excited for the opportunity to hopefully grow both as a leader and a member of the community.
